Penn Quarter Sports Tavern has the look and feel of a Cheers-inspired sports pub, that is, if Cheers had 60-inch plasmas and was crawling with lively boozers in their mid-to-late-20s. Located just three blocks from the Verizon Center, this is an ideal spot to grab a quick bite and down a few pints before a Wizards or Caps game. Warm lighting, a homey décor and a menu featuring signature sandwiches and unique takes on American classics make the Tavern a great choice for non-fans as well. If it’s too noisy inside with a big game on, check out the outdoor patio.

This rating system must have a major processing error. The Penn Quarter Sports Tavern is a five-star sports bar. The Washington Post survey voted it Best Sports Bar in 2009 and Best Bar in 2010!!! Come and check it out. It's my favorite sports bar anywhere, not just in DC! How come? Best atmosphere I can find, especially at game times. Big wide screens with totally unobstructed views, Friendly customers and staff. Good prices on great food and drinks. Great space, upstairs, downstairs and - spring through fall - also on the patio and sidewalk.
I love this place. It's intimate, it's in a perfect location, and yet it's not overwhelmed (though it is pretty busy) with tourists and swarms of screaming fans. The people are great, the menu is much more than what you would expect from a sports bar, the prices are fair, they serve Miller Lite (among other beers), and there are enough TVs to give everyone what they want. Really love this place.
Just found this little gem down on 7th and penn NW on my way to a caps game. Tired of "Chinatown" madness before and after every trip to the verizon. Found a seat at the bar no problem (it was a tuesday afterall) had the best burger ive ever tasted and a pitcher of beer for twenty bucks or so. Watched some highlights on one of many 50" tv's (there's more tvs than tables) while offering playoff opinions of my defensively challenged team to the rabid hockey who was my bartender. unfortunately he was a redwings fan. if i could sum up this bar in one word: genuine. You don't have to be trendy when you're the real deal. I only wonder if i can add on a bar stool to my season. tickets
