I am losing weight and often visit Darrah’s so that Mama Susie can make my special. I often ask for Deja by name and tip well. I have been served by at least 6 females over the past few years. Contrary to what I just read I have been well served by all the females including little Susie. I cannot imagine what turned you against Deja because she is often willing the assist me with my most complex orders. I am very particular about my food and tip well. Maybe if the previous reviewer would tip better and dine there more often they would see that Mike is a walking ash tray. He has served me too...that is when he does not have to run out for a quick smoke. I am sure that he hung up on me while I was making my last carry-out order over the phone. All the ladies waiters, Bree, Marie, Susan, Deja and Elise are all great. I cannot fathom why anyone would ask for Mike over the service of by those nice ladies. I have to go now. I am sure great meal and a better server other than Mike awaits me at Darrah’s Café.
My review is actually amazingly close to the previous review. My wife & I had gone there numerous times a while ago, loved the food, hated the service. Went back because we heard it was better, got the same waiter as the previous reviewer (Mike) & enjoyed every moment of it! He is wonderful & I almost think that if they let him run the place, this restaurant would be unstoppable. If the previous reviewer and I are talking about the same "eye rolling, lazy" waitress, her name is Deja. She's nice, but wow, she really doesn't want to earn that tip! You'll be lucky if you see her after she brings out your food... well, you actually do see her again; when she wants her money. My advice is simple: Ask for Mike. I don't know about any of the other servers, but you won't go wrong if you get Mike. & tip him well. He definitely deserves it! I'm almost worried that he won't be around for much longer out of fear that another restaurant might jump to take him. If that happens, well, then its back to Charlie's. Oh, and don't expect anyone to be there to open the place at 11. Go at 11:30. Half the time, the person opening the door doesn't show up until after 11, leaving everyone sitting in the parking lot... or going somewhere else. Overall though it is a great place with amazing food, and warming hospitality. Don't be set back if the parking lot is full. Everytime we go there, it seems so crowded on the outside, but when we walk in, there are only a few customers in the place.
We went a couple of times last year and as great as the food was, the service was horrible. There weren't any other customers in the restaurant and still there were dirty tables and I could swear our waitress rolled her eyes at me whenever I'd ask for a refill. We started going back a few months ago because we were told it had gotten better. To our shock and surprise the same rude girl was still working there (and sitting around) but we luckily got a male waiter (Mike? or Mark?) and he was amazing. If they hire more like him, we'll tell all of our friends. Until then, if you do go in, ask for the guy waiter. It will definitely give you a better experience. And try to sheild your eyes from the waitresses that are just sitting around. I just think it's tacky and unprofessional.
